For many thousands of years the Mediterranean Sea has been a nexus of global commercial trade. Our tour takes in three of its major trading ports; Naples, Genoa and Marseille.
We’ll explore each city’s cuisine in the context of its maritime history and learn how and why the ingredients that flowed in and out of these ports, both framed and formed the dishes that define them today.
We’ll learn why pizza is THE iconic food of Naples, why merguez sausages and couscous are huge in Marseilles and why the food of Genoa is uniquely different to the rest of Italy.
Accompanied by award-winning food and travel writer, Lucy Malouf, the history and food culture of each port city will be brought to life by local specialist culinary guides and historians.
