About the tour

Japan is a fascinating blend of refined ritual, stylised ceremony, ancient history and hyper-urban neon. It is unique in its food, culture, dress and traditions. On this tour you will experience the magnificent culture and history of Japan alongside its contemporary culture. Spectacular journeys include the scenic Odakyu Romance car train to Hakone, a ride on the Komagatake cable car to see a stunning view of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi, cruising past the great Torii Shrine across the Inland Sea, walking through the samurai quarter of Kanazawa as well as walking through the soaring bamboo forest of Arashiyama.

This tailor-made tour is designed to follow the International College of Dentists' Centennial Meeting and Celebrations in Nagoya, Japan, that runs from 20 - 22 September 2021.

Post Congress Tour:

  • 23 Sept (Thur) Nagoya / Kyoto: Transfer to the station and train to Osaka. Large bags to be sent by post to Osaka. Arrive Osaka in afternoon and check into the Courtyard by Marriott Shin Osaka Hotel. Sightseeing tour by local transport and on foot to the vibrant Namba District and around Dotonburi
  • 24 Sept (Fri) Osaka / Kyoto / Osaka: Take the train to Kyoto and explore Kyoto by bus. Visit the Golden Pavilion and its garden and Nijo Castle. Walk through the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. Visit Tenryuji Temple and the Actors’ Garden and its teahouse for tea
  • 25 Sept (Sat) Osaka / Hiroshima / Osaka: Option to visit Hiroshima or free day. (Optional Hiroshima visit: Take the bullet train to Hiroshima and travel by tram to vist the A Bomb Dome, the Peace Memorial Park and museum). Take a ferry in the Inland Sea to Miyajima Island and visit the Torii Shrine * (or Itsukushima Shrine). Return to Hiroshima
  • 26 Sept (Sun) Kanazawa: Take the train to Kanazawa. Visit the samurai quarter, including the old pharmacy, the samurai house and garden, the Yuzen Silk Centre and the Kubani Kutaraki pottery. Check into the Agora Kanasawa Hotel
  • 27 Sept (Mon) Kanazawa / Tokyo: Visit Kenrokuen Garden and the ruined castle. Visit the geisha quarter (Higashichaya Old Town) including the Ochaya Art House and the Kaikaro Geisha House. Bullet train to Tokyo and check into the Akasaka Tokyu Excel Hotel. Dinner in Tokyo
  • 28 Sept (Tue) Tokyo / Hakone / Tokyo: Train to Hakone. Ride on the Komagatake Cable Car to see a stunning view of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi. Cruise across Lake Ashi with more superb views of Mount Fuji. Return to Tokyo
  • 29 Sept (Wed) Tokyo: Visit the Tsukji Outer Market, the historic Asakusa neighbourhood and Senso-ji Temple. Visit fashionable Harajuku area and the Meiji Shrine. Farewell dinner
  • 30 Sept (Thur) Tokyo: Depart Tokyo
