About the tour

This tour, run in association with the Royal Society of Medicine, gives you insight into an extraordinary cross section of China. Travel from imperial Beijing to the ancient capital Xi'an and into Sichuan, with its rich cultural and distinctive ethnic heritage. Cruise along the mighty Yangtze, the main artery of trade and transport in China for thousands of years, and end your tour in cutting edge Shanghai, with its spectacular neon skylines and gracious Art Deco heart. Along the way explore both the historical and contemporary in Chinese society and healthcare.

Professional visits range from a modern teaching hospital and an urban clinic in Beijing, to a Traditional Chinese Medicine hospital in Xi'an, to a traditional healer in a herb garden and a private clinic serving China's growing nouveau riche in Chengdu. A highlight of the tour will be a journey on the brand new high speed train to Chengdu, which climbs thorugh spectacular scenery of forests and mountains towards the Tibetan plateau.
