There are a number of CPD lectures and on-shore dental visits along the way, as well as a cultural itinerary that makes the most of your time in the various Danube cities and towns you will visit. The cruise includes a final night at the luxury Corinthia Hotel in Budapest with a farewell dinner.
Kevin Esplin has been a specialist in prosthodontics for many years. He trained at King’s College Hospital, London and then embarked on a two-year postgraduate program at the University of Connecticut, followed by a stint at the Eastman Dental Institute, London. For the past 35 years he has been in private practice in Cambridge, where he specialises in restorative dentistry and dental implants. His practice won the award of ’The Best Dental Practice in Britain" in 2015. He has lectured in the USA and England and has been running dental education programs in his practice for the past 10 years.
Day 1: Passau, Germany (Fri, 10 June)
Transfer to Passau, 'the city of three rivers' and board the Amadeus Star. Enjoy welcome drinks and dinner. Cruise overnight to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Regensburg, the first capital of Bavaria, with two millennia of history bequeathing to the city some of the region's finest architectural heritage.
Day 2: Regensburg, Germany (Sat, 11 June)
Explore Regensburg, one of the best medieval cities in Germany. Take a walking tour through the city's winding lanes, streets and numerous squares before taking part in CPD lectures in the afternoon with a traditional Bavarian night on board.
Day 3: Passau / Salzburg / Linz, Austria (Sun, 12 June)
Cruise back to Passau and disembark for a day trip to Salzburg in Austria, a baroque city of storybook beauty. Take a tour of the city of Mozart, including the house where he was born, the Place Schloss Mirabell and the Rezidenz. After lunch head into the Alps and the stunning region of Salzkammergut. Return to the ship with a visit to the Roman Town of Linz.
Day 4: Melk / Vienna, Austria (Mon, 13 June)
Visit the Benedictine Melk Abbey, perched above the town on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube. Explore the impressive library and frescoes before continuing to ancient Durnstein, one of the most romantic Danube towns, for a combination of stunning scenery, history, architecture and wine tasting. Return to the ship now in Weissenkirchen and sail on to Vienna.
Day 5: Vienna, Austria (Tues, 14 June)
Vienna is a city famous for many things – imperial grandeur, music, Freud, exquisite food and also its vibrant contemporary cultural scene. Spend the next day exploring this magnificent city and see the Ringstrasse, Schwatzenbergplatz, Karlskirche, Hofburg Palace, St. Stephens Cathedral, and take a tour of the ornate opera house. In the afternoon, take part in CPD lectures or a professional visit, or visit the Kunstkammer Museum. Enjoy wine tasting in the evening. Cruise through the night to Bratislava, a vibrant city with a charming medieval heart, set amidst breathtaking countryside in Slovakia.
Day 6: Vienna / Bratislava, Slovankia (Wed, 15 June)
Sail into Bratislava while having breakfast. Explore the city including the old quarter, the baroque castle, Academia Ostropolitana, City Hall and Ganymede's Fountain. There will be a late afternoon CPD lecture or you can spend time at leisure. In the evening, enjoy a Captain's Gala Dinner on board.
Day 7: Esztergom / Budapest, Hungary (Thurs, 16 June)
Arrive in Esztergom in Hungary to be greeted by the incredible sight of its massive domed basilica, sitting high above the town and river. This town has an ancient and royal history, being the birthplace of Hungary's first king, St Stephen, in 975 AD. Visit the grand domed basilica and the ruined fortress of Visegrad for great views of the 'Knee of the Danube'. Continue to the artists village of Szentendre and continue on to Budapest. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Budapest and take in sights including Castle Hill, Fisherman's Bastion, Parliament, the Opera house and Hero's Square. In the evening, enjoy a 'Budapest by night' river cruise.
Day 8: Budapest, Hungary (Fri, 17 June)
Next morning disembark for a CPD meeting and a partner programme to visit the central market and famous Café Gerbeau for coffee and cake. You will spend your final night in 5-star luxury at the Corinthia Hotel, finishing your European journey in suitably grand style. Spend the afternoon at leisure enjoying the wonderful hotel facilities, including the spa, before a farewell dinner at the hotel’s excellent restaurant.
Day 9: Budapest, Hungary (Sat, 18 June)
Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport, or take the post-tour extension.
