Dr Massad is the Head of the Department of Legal Medicine, Medical Ethics and Occupational Medicine at the School of Medicine at the University of Sao Paulo. He is also an Honorary Professor of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine since 2003. Originally trained in medicine, Dr Massad went on to obtain a degree in physics and a PhD in experimental pathology. Together with his collaborators he did important work in the mathematical modelling of infectious disease such as dengue and yellow fever. He is currently working on the European Community Consortium Project ZIKAPlan and a project assessing ZIKV transmission and mitigation strategies.
